Nightmares on Wax returned to Warp after a five year absence with the sun-soaked luxury of Feelin’ Good, an album that oozed relaxed summer euphoria. With orchestral contributions from Sebastian Studnitzky of Jazzanova, and finely-judged jazz drums from Wolfgang Haffner, this beautiful full length bottled up a sense of forthright celebration that felt as much in tune with the label’s vintage roster as more recent signings like Flying Lotus

So Here We Are combines a crisp but chilled drum pattern with an easy-going jazz trumpet solo which summons up memories of long summer evenings, while Master Plan strangely recalls Portishead or the greatest Bond tunes with its woozy strings punctured by sharp hip-hop claps and a swooning female vocal.

These slow burners find a crucial riposte in the physical funk of Tapestry, where zips of percussion rolls become mechanised to form a cut which strangely chimes with much of 2013’s rough-edged releases.

Now Is The Time is undoubtedly the album’s most infectious party number, with a jacking funk, classic house pianos and a dub MC vocal being lifted even further by the kind of crisp water droplet drums which label mates TNGHT handle to deadly effect.
