The 2003 LP Spokes from London based Warp duo Plaid draws on some of the darker moods found in their formative years as part of The Black Dog, yet it is still a classic Plaid album due to the instantly recognisable rhythm structures and deep sense of warmth.
A soft lullaby melody sets a false sense of security on Even Spring, eventually making way for shimmering broken arrangement whilst the hypnotic Crumax Rins comes shortly after with a barrage of beats.
Inclusions such as Zeal and Cedar City show off deep depth in layers of sound, perfectly balancing both organic and synthetic elements to work both body and brain.
